San Diego City College Celebrates Black History Month with A Range Of Events

The San Diego Community College District is celebrating Black History Month with a wide range of activities, including a number of events at downtown’s San Diego City College.

The school will host films, networking opportunities, a photography exhibit, barbershop grand opening and much more. All events are free, open to the public and located on the campus of City College:

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 8

Black Excellence Meet & Greet

11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

An opportunity for Black students to meet other Black students, faculty, staff and administrators to build community and learn about key on-campus resources. (A Building Patio)

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9

Black Film Fridays: BlacKkKlansman

4 to 7 p.m.

Watch a film and engage in dialogue about its meaning, messages and connection to today’s student experience. Sponsored by Umoja. (MS-162)

Black Educators Networking Event

6 to 9 p.m.

Meet local and inspiring Black educators. Enjoy food and music and win prizes. Sponsored by City College Office of the President. Register here (Schwartz Plaza)

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14

Celebration of Black Culture

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Basketball Double Header (Black History Month & Sophomore Night)

5 p.m. & 7 p.m.

City College men’s and women’s basketball teams double header. Participate in the half-time activities at both games as well as in the resource fair. Men’s Game vs. MiraCosta (5 p.m.); Women’s Game vs. Imperial Valley (7 p.m.) at Harry West Gymnasium.

“Afroture” – Community Black History Month Photography Exhibition

3 to 5 p.m.

Barbershop Grand Opening
