“Senior Idol”: These 60+ Contestants Still Have A Song In their Hearts

Performers competed for fun and prizes at the Serving Seniors’ annual talent show in downtown San Diego

The 13th annual “Senior Idol” competition took center stage in downtown San Diego at the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center on August 20. All entrants were 60 years or older, performing for applause, bragging rights and prizes.

The Senior Idol show is primarily aimed at being a fun event for Serving Seniors clients, but it’s also about healthy socialization. The U.S. Surgeon General lists loneliness as a significant health threat.

Serving Seniors is local nonprofit serving 60+ low-income seniors with services that include nutrition, meals, housing, health, social services and life-long learning opportunities for at-risk seniors.

San Diego Sun photographer Sal Giametta was there at the wellness center helping create new sets of memories.
