Little Italy’s Civico 1845 restaurant in downtown San Diego was recently named an ambassador of Italian cuisine at the annual Fancy Food Show in Las Vegas.

The restaurant is one of eight in the U.S. selected to represent Italian cuisine. The showcase was organized by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), which is dedicated to promoting Italian food and beverages.

Civico 1845 is owned by brothers Dario and Pietro Gallo (who is the chef). Both were born in Cosenza, Italy.

“We are honored that the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and ITA has lauded our restaurant,” Dario Gallo says. “We are beyond proud to be selected for this honor – and to represent our culture and traditions through our authentic and traditional cuisine.”

The selection criteria were based on the restaurant’s ability to demonstrate authenticity, sustainability and biocultural diversity.

Civico 1485 offers fresh and light cuisine, including an expansive array of scratch-made entrees and desserts. The menu focuses on traditional Italian favorites, with a modern spin on classic dishes.
