Celebrated as a national holiday since 2021, Juneteenth (Wednesday, June 19, 2024) will see many public offices closed.

As Americans ought to know, Juneteenth recognizes the end of slavery, as decreed by President Abraham Lincoln after the Civil War.

On June 19, all San Diego County offices, family resource centers, libraries and animal shelters will be closed to the public.

Parking meters, yellow zones and posted street sweeping routes within the City of San Diego will not be enforced.

All public buildings in Balboa Park will be closed, including the Municipal Gym, Morley Field and Balboa Park Activity Center.

The U.S. Postal Service will not make deliveries on June 19, as most federal workers get the day off. The DMV and Social Security Administration will be closed.

Of course, law enforcement, emergency animal control response and other essential services will remain open.
