D3 San Diego City Council Candidates Scheduled To Debate

Callen, Cusack, Jones and Whitburn are billed on a January 31 public forum to be held in Hillcrest

All four candidates for the District 3 seat in the San Diego City Council race are billed to appear in a public forum scheduled for Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

The Candidate Forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. at First Unitarian Church, Bard Hall (229 West Arbor Street in Hillcrest).

Questions from the audience will be curated by a moderator.

The candidates are:

  • Kate Callen (Democrat, professional writer)
  • Coleen Cusack (Democrat, pro bono attorney and homeless advocate)
  • Ellis California Jones (Republican, small business owner)
  • Stephen Whitburn (incumbent Democrat, D3 councilmember)

District 3 covers all of downtown San Diego, as well as Balboa Park, Bankers Hill/Park West, Golden Hill, Hillcrest, Little Italy and Middletown.

The 2024 primary election will be held on March 5.
