San Diegans can welcome Ed Hack in Balboa Park at the end point of his 1,000-mile bike ride after starting at the Oregon border. Hack has been riding to highlight mental health and promote Kooth Digital Health’s new mental health and wellness app.
The trip will be celebrated with a family-friendly group bike ride on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
Hack, an adventure cyclist, is one of several people in California taking on the challenge as part of a new initiative to raise awareness about youth mental health.
The state launched a new digital platform, the Behavioral Health Virtual Services Platform, as part of a broader plan to help young people access the support they need. The platform is free and confidential, and is available to anyone in California between the ages of 13 and 25.
During Hack’s 1,000-mile trek, he stopped in communities across the state to share stories about mental health challenges facing young people today.
“Just like with my cycling journey, mental health is a journey filled with ups and downs, highs and lows,” Hack said. “My goal is to help as many young people and their families, caregivers, and communities as possible by building awareness for Soluna to help reduce the stigmas and lower any potential barriers to care so today’s youth can get the support and help needed to build strong and resilient lives.”
Those wishing to join up with Hack for a celebratory four-mile roundtrip bike ride should meet at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at Sixth Avenue and El Prado. Register at: Bike Coalition.
A noon post-ride hangout will include snacks and demonstration of the new, free Soluna mental health app. SDSun
