The biannual San Diego Restaurant Week is getting ready to plate up for a September 14 to 21 run.
Twice a year (including the last one held January 26 to February 2, 2025), more than 100 restaurants across the county offer exclusive menus at variable prix-fixe costs, ranging from $25 for lunches to $70 for dinners.
In downtown San Diego, there are dozens of participating eateries.
What we discovered earlier this year: If you’re looking for value you’ll find it at the higher end eateries, like steakhouses. You might save up to $20 on a three-course prix-fixe menu that includes a cut of steak plus a side and a dessert.
Know that not every offering during SDRW is a bargain. However, there may be restaurants you’ve been dying to try and this is a good opportunity to whet your appetite for new bites.
Either way, dining out is a good way to support the local food-and-beverage industry.
Want to do some research ahead of dining forays? The SDRW website has a list of participating spots where you can search by neighborhood, food type and course (lunch, brunch, dinner and drink as course). Go to: SDRW.
MORE B-A-N-A-N-A-S

A previous TIDBITS column noted one downtown bar acknowledging the September 5 & 6 games being played at Petco Park by the wildly popular exhibition team Savannah Bananas. Borrego Rooftop Kitchen + Cocktails is selling a “Banana Balk” cocktail (Four Roses Bourbon, banana liqueur, lemon juice and honey syrup).
Also heading up to the plate: Three more downtown bars are allured by the appeal of the Bananas game spirit, including:
- Havana 1920 will sell a “Havana Banana” (Havana 1920 Rum, lime, banana and demerara sugar).
- El Chingon is mixing up a banana margarita (tequila, lime, banana, orange and agave).
- At Lionfish Modern Coast Cuisine, the “Peelin’ Good” will be made with bourbon, Aperol, banana, lemon and demerara.
BIG SHOT

Football season is back, and Barleymash is one of the most popular places to gather in front of mass-banked TVs to root on your team. The bar/restaurant opens on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 a.m. If that’s a little early for you, consider a bracing, wake-up shot that gives a nod to San Diego’s favorite anchorman Ron Burgundy. Order a “Milk Was A Bad Choice” (Jäger Cold Brew, salted caramel, cold brew, and Frangelico whip). Hope it feels good going down, down into your belly. SDSun
