Next on Center Stage: Wonderfront Music & Arts Festival

Downtown San Diego's 3-day outdoor music fest gears up with headliner Zac Brown Band on Nov. 18, 2022

Get ready to finally plug in.

Headlining the highly anticipated, three-day Wonderfront Music & Arts Festival are Grammy-winning performers Zac Brown Band (pictured above; Getty Images), Gwen Stefani and Kings Of Leon.

From November 18-20, 2022, they’ll be joined by 80-plus bands on eight stages lining Embarcadero Marina Mark North along the picturesque San Diego Bay.

Wonderfront returns to downtown San Diego after a two-year layoff caused by the pandemic.

Festival co-founder Ernie Hahn says the festival is designed to be a dream-come-true event for all music lovers.

One cool aspect: Ticket holders can go in and out of the festival grounds at any time.

“If you want to put in 8 to 10 hours at our festival you could listen for two hours and then take a break,” Hahn says. “Go out and take a nap. Or discover a new downtown restaurant. Then come back. As many times as you like.”

He believes this is a key facet that makes the downtown site ideal.

“If you live downtown, what could be better?” Hahn asks. “There’s a festival a short walk from your house. At the end of the night, you walk home. It’s ideal. If you’re from North County or out of town, the hotels are right here. It’s simple. It’s not like we’re out in the middle of a desert.”

Hahn also points to the floating venues that’ll be part of the festival and the after-parties happening in spots like The Casbah and Music Box when the festival shuts down each night at 10 p.m.

Mostly, Hahn would like San Diegans to adopt Wonderfront as a local institution. Like Street Scene.

“I want people to look at this festival the way they look at the Padres, or how they used to look at the Chargers,” he says. “This is their festival. It’s about music and discovering new bands, but it’s about San Diego first.”
