This short boat service between downtown San Diego and Coronado is a gorgeous ride, and not just for tourists

Here’s some exciting news for fans of the Coronado Ferry: Starting in the fall of 2026, the ferries will be 100% electric!

Did you know that the ferry service between San Diego and Coronado has been operating for more than 100 years? It started back in 1886. There are two ferries in use: the Cabrillo and the Silvergate. The latter was built in 1940 and is the longest-running wooden ferry in the United States.

The ferry runs every, day twice an hour, between Coronado and two ports in downtown San Diego. You can grab the ferry from Broadway Pier on the hour or from behind the San Diego Convention Center every half hour. Ferries depart Coronado on the half hour.

The views on the 15-minute ferry ride are incredible! You can check out all the beautiful yachts lined up in front of the convention center as you’re leaving to go to the Coronado Ferry Landing. And as you return, get a breathtaking view of the stunning San Diego skyline!

While you’re at the Coronado Ferry Landing, you can enjoy 25 unique shops and restaurants, and get access to all that Coronado has to offer.
