Izola is back. The East Village bakery voted number-one in the U.S. and Canada by Yelp in 2022 has a new location–still in East Village–to create and sell the artisan loaves of sourdough bread and flaky croissants that have locals drooling.

The new address is 1429 Island Avenue. The facility sits on the northwest corner of Fault Line Park. The building has been the site of a few restaurants that have come and gone, most recently Modbom X Papalo. Before that it was Amplified Ale Works.

East Village locals hope the addition of Izola will be an incentive for more attention to the upkeep of Fault Line Park, which has an uneven history of maintenance.

Recall that Izola got its start during the pandemic. Jenny Chen and Jeffrey Brown has a third-floor bakery/cafe at a former photo studio inside a historic building at 13th and G streets.

Due to Covid restrictions, the pair rigged up a basket that could lower their delicacies from a window to hungry patrons waiting on the sidewalk on 13th Street.

The basket helped make Izola a local sensation.

The new site is 4,200 square feet and has been slightly modified. There’s plenty of indoor/outdoor seating.

At the moment, Izola is open Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Closed on Sunday and Monday).

Pre-ordering is available. For more information, go to: Izola. SDSun
