The wildly popular East Village bakery IZOLA has found a new location in downtown San Diego, with plans aimed at re-opening in mid-May.
The new spot is 1429 Island Avenue, between 14th and 15th streets.
The location is just two blocks from Izola’s previous third-floor operation on 13th Street. The new space was the former site of Amplified Ale Works and dual-space concept Modbom X Papalo.
Izola’s new open-air building shares the block with Fault Line Park.
Yelp honored IZOLA the past two years, naming it the top bakery in the United States & Canada in 2022, and runner up in 2023.
Downtown San Diego residents may recall owners Jenny Chen and Jeffrey Brown baking bread during the pandemic in their third-floor ovens, then lowering their highly sought loafs down by a bucket on a string to socially-distanced customers.
The company is also in the process of creating an ISOLA Main production site in City Heights. Also the future home of a Dough Innovation Center, it’s believed ISOLA Main will radically help increase production, as well as improve product consistency and create new jobs. SDSun
