East Village dining staple Basic Bar & Pizza is vacating it’s current location after nearly two decades in operation.
Take a breath, there’s good news: Basic’s rectangular, thin-pie offerings will be available at a new location shortly after it’s last day at the current spot.
Essentially since the opening of Petco Park, Basic has been a premier pre- and post-game hangout for San Diego Padres baseball fans. The eatery’s address is 410 Tenth Avenue, but its open-air dining area fronts J Street, just a couple blocks from the ballpark.
Basic is also a neighborhood fave, and won a top spot in The San Diego Sun’s 2023 Downtown Dining Readers’ Poll.
Founder Jon Mangini says the operation will stay in place until the end of the Padres season–including any postseason play.
After that, the plan is to set up shop on the ground floor of the Park 12 development (just east of Petco Park and Park Boulevard).
The new location should be open by the end of 2024. And yes, the menu–including the mashed-potato pizza–will be the same. SDSun
