APRIL RECOMMENDED: What’s Blooming In Downtown SD

Free ice cream, country music and Mission Fed ArtWalk are fun and colorful parts of what’s on this month’s canvas

Spring has sprung so now more group outdoor activities are lined up for downtown San Diego in April. Rapper Wiz Khalifa is coming to the “clerb,” Boots in the Park is galloping into town sooner than usual, and the 41st annual Mission Federal ArtWalk returns to the streets of Little Italy. Here’s your list of April Recommended events:

Wiz Khalifa at Nova SD

April 3 (Thursday) Downtown’s popular nightclub is hosting an A-list artist to kick off the month. Tickets are still available, so come party young, wild & free at Nova SD. More info

Boots in the Park

April 5 (Sunday) Swing your partner round-n-round to the annual Boots in the Park festival at Waterfront Park. Note: The festival and its Southern Charm are arriving a few months earlier than usual this year. Featured performers include Old Dominion, Chris Young, and yourself line dancing! More info

Ben and Jerry’s Free Cone Day 

April 8 (Tuesday) With warmer weather approaching, now is the time to treat yourself to free ice cream at the Ben & Jerry’s location in Seaport Village (or any in the country). No purchase is required to enjoy your favorite exclusive flavors, from Cherry Garcia to Chunky Monkey. More info

Race for Autism

April 12 (Saturday) Enjoy the scenes of Balboa Park while supporting San Diego’s own National Foundation for Autism Research. Sign-ups for both the Superhero 5K Race and the 1-Mile Family Run are available now until the day of the race. Don’t miss the dance warm-up at 7 a.m.! More info

Beach Bunny Kite Festival 

April 12 (Saturday) Hop on over to Seaport Village for family photo-ups with the Beach Bunny and watch kites soar above the San Diego Bay! More info

Quartyard’s 10th Anniversary

April 13 (Sunday) This special event marks a decade of community, art and music in East Village. The celebration runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and features a performance by Adrian Younge and his 10-piece orchestra and beats by the San Diego Freak Out DJs. More info

Matt Friend LIVE!

April 17-19 (Thursday-Saturday) Though maybe not as noble as his performances at the White House or the red carpet, comedian and impressionist Matt Friend is coming to the American Comedy Co. Experience Friend’s impersonations of U.S. Presidents, Jeff Goldblum, Jennifer Coolidge and more. More info

San Diego EarthFest

April 19 (Saturday) Earth Day comes early with the annual EarthFest at Balboa Park! Connect with our planet alongside more than 100 sustainable vendors, live music, yoga, and educational activities for kids. Get outside, eat some eco-friendly grub and learn about our beautiful planet. More info

April 26 & 27 (Saturday & Sunday) For 41 years, Mission Federal ArtWalk has dazzled San Diegans in Little Italy. This annual festival not only includes more than 250 visual artist booths, but also boasts four stages for live music and lots of local food. See artists from all over the country; check out the interactive art and the KidsWalk! More info

San Diego Music Awards

April 29 (Tuesday) It may not be the Grammy’s, but the San Diego Music Awards celebrates local artists, with event proceeds going towards music education in our local schools.
