The lineup for TedxSanDiego’s 15th annual speakers series has been announced and San Diego Sun founder/editor Ron Donoho has been selected to be part of this prestigious event.

The TedxSanDiego show, themed “commUNITY,” will be taped in front of a live audience at the David & Dorothea Garfield Theatre in La Jolla on April 10, 2024.

This year’s nine speakers were selected from 514 applicants who were nominated by community leaders throughout the region.

“I’m thrilled our lineup of speakers elevates San Diego’s image on a global scale,” says Audrey Jacobs, chief connector and curator of TEDxSanDiego. “Each talk will share a powerful idea worth spreading and an action worth taking. Our 2024 theme ‘commUNITY’ celebrates the idea that only through uniting diverse communities can we learn from each other.”

All the speakers are San Diego-based and come from the worlds of: medicine and technology, celebrating aging, understanding children’s mental health, indigenous wisdom, entrepreneurial mindset, extreme acts of kindness, magic of mentoring, imposter syndrome, and the power of local journalism.

Donoho will take the stage to share insights about his experience as founder of the independent, downtown-San Diego-focused San Diego Sun news website.

“I’m honored to be a part of this group,” Donoho says. “And I’m thrilled TedxSanDiego gives me a platform to talk about the state of media and what can be done to reboot local journalism and allow the industry to contribute to community solutions.”

This year’s TEDxSanDiego | commUNITY lineup includes:

  • Arielle Ford, Author & Relationship Expert, advocates for a positive perspective on aging.
  • Armand King, Youth leader and author, delves into the magic of mentoring marginalized youth.
  • Brian Keating, UCSD Professor of Physics and Cosmologist, tackles imposter syndrome.
  • Courtney Glavis-Bloom, Senior Neuroscientist for Salk, redefines Alzheimer’s research.
  • Jillian Wiggins, SDSU Professor, explores children’s brain imaging for mental health.

The inaugural TED (Technology, Education & Design) conference was held in 1984. TEDxSanDiego, one of the longest-running TEDx events in the country since 2010, is an independently organized event.

The commUNITY event will be emceed by local educator Rachael Stewart. The April 10 show will also include musical performances by Gabriela Aparicio and Matrida Boazi.
