The Lucky Duck Foundation recently announced more than $3 million in funding for initiatives aimed at reducing homelessness in San Diego.
The money includes $1 million for job training opportunities; $1 million to aid homeless youth and seniors; and $1 million to add detox beds and other pathways off the streets.
The Luck Duck Foundation will also continue to fund a program that distributes several thousand winter coats that transform into sleeping bags, beginning again this fall and winter.
The funding was announced on September 12 at The Sound in Del Mar at LDF’s annual Showcase Soirée.
“These critical programs are made possible by our very generous donors and will help advance our ability to prevent and alleviate the suffering of homelessness throughout San Diego County,” Lucky Duck Foundation CEO Drew Moser said.
LDF awarded it’s “Fr. Joe Carroll Hustler of the Year” award to the nonprofit We See You San Diego. The organization received a $250,000 commitment to continue efforts to be a pathway from the streets into drug and alcohol recovery.
Two posthumous honors were announced at the Showcase Soirée: for late LDF Executive Committee Member and San Diego Padres owner Peter Seidler and former NBA great Bill Walton.
LDF has renamed one of its programs “The Peter Seidler Way Symposiums on Homelessness.” And Walton was named the “Lucky Duck Person of the Year.”
