More than 20,000 runners celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon San Diego on June 4, 2023. The 26.2-mile course–enlivened by rock bands at each mile–began at Sixth Avenue and Quince Street at Balboa Park and finished at Ash and Union streets in Little Italy.

San Diego Sun photographer Sal Giametta was out among the throngs to document one of downtown San Diego’s iconic annual sporting events.
