FACES & PLACES: Postseason Vibes at Petco Park

In a downtown filled with psyched-up fans, the San Diego Padres won their first live-attendance home playoff games since 2006

In an electric downtown atmosphere, the San Diego Padres beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-1, on October 14, 2022. The Padres lead the National League Division Series two games to one.

The Padres could–remarkably–eliminate the Dodgers from the postseason in this best-of-five series at Petco Park on Saturday, October 15. Game time is schedule for 6:37 p.m.

San Diego fans came downtown in droves for Friday’s game, and the excitement level grew outside Petco Park even before the first pitch.

OF NOTE: The Padres are playing in just their third postseason since Petco Park opened in 2004.

The Friars lost in the National League Division Series to the St. Louis Cardinals in both 2005 and ’06.

In the COVID-shortened 2020 season, the Padres beat the Cardinals 2-1 in the NL Wild Card Series. Those games were held at Petco Park–with no fans in attendance, due to pandemic protocols.

San Diego went on to lose to the Dodgers, 3-0, in the 2020 NLDS. Those games were held in a neutral site (Arlington Stadium in Texas).
