The official opening day of The Con was a throw-back to the high volume of fans seen in the pre-COVID years

The San Diego Convention Center doors swung open and the throngs filed in. Comic-Con 2023 brought the fanbase back in droves.

There was plenty to see on the exhibition floor. Funko, with all its pop-culture collectible figurines, doubled the size of its booth.

Sans celebrities, Hall H filled up with fans wanting the skinny from a panel for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. The film comes out later this year.

And if you wanted merch, any merch, there was a line for that.

At this year’s Comic-Con, the attendees are the stars. Look for heightened levels of cosplay on the weekend. And even on Opening Day, devotees to super heroes, comic-book cult characters and any entity imaginable came to strut their stuff and happily oblige selfie seekers.
