The layout for this year’s East Village Oktoberfest spans 42,000 feet — including the open-air, multi-purpose venue Quartyard, part of 13th Street and roughly two blocks of Market Street.
The party takes place on Saturday, October 5.
An Oktoberfest celebration usually focuses on German beer, and lots of it. East Village inserts a Latin twist, seen and heard in the musical acts as well as the lagers.
San Diego’s proximity to Mexico helped spur the connection. As well as a historical bond with a native Austrian who briefly ruled Mexico in 1864, bringing along settlers who helped influenced beer recipes and Mariachi music.
The Germanic influence will be seen, too, at the East Village Oktoberfest with party-forward men wearing lederhosen shorts and women dressed in traditional dirndls.
One of the musical acts is Ladyhosen, an all-female band that mixes accordion, tuba, polka and acrobatic yodeling.
Participating breweries: Karl Strauss, Ketch Brewing, Mother Earth Brew Co, Stone Brewing Co, Eppig Brewing, Fall Brewing Company, Enegren Brewing Co, Societe Brewing Company, Knotty Brewing, and Coronado Brewing.
Food will be served by El Comal, TNT Pizza, Nava Sausage and a few more eateries.
