The Columbia District is one of downtown San Diego’s least recognizable neighborhoods. Traditional maps show Broadway as it’s southern border with the Marina District. Some newer, business-focused maps, however, push the boundary farther south. To add to the confusion, Core-Columbia is often combined into one neighborhood, adding the business/financial district that’s east of traditional Columbia.
However you divide the neighborhood, Columbia is definitely home to The Santa Fe Depot train station, an engaging swath of the San Diego Bay, high-end restaurants like Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse and Seneca Trattoria, concert house Music Box and the San Diego Civic Theatre performing arts venue.
CLARIFICATION: While the Columbia District does not include adjacent Port of San Diego bayside land, the neighborhood does directly benefit from proximity to it.
