Let’s bounce forward into the New Year. Following last week’s recap of our 2025 editorial accomplishments, here’s a list of resolutions for The San Diego Sun in the coming year:

  1. Continue to write hard-hitting, investigative and award-winning stories about downtown San Diego. The Sun has proven it’s not afraid to take on elected officials or high-profile entities. The intention is to dig even deeper into institutionalized misinformation.

(Attention freelance writers with investigative chops: Please reach out with story pitches about exposing institutionalized misinformation.)

  1. Prove that monetary grants from the Prebys Foundation, business maven Patti Roscoe and the Lucky Duck Foundation, and donations from nearly 100 individual readers, are good investments. We aim to build on the trust we’ve earned to attract even more financial supporters who want to see local independent news thrive.
  1. Further utilize the power of the Documenters program. We partner with inewsource, which trains people to attend government meetings and take notes that can be converted into news stories.
  1. Do more than compete with other local news outlets, and continue to share The Sun’s connection to downtown news with The Times of San Diego.
  1. As a new board member of The San Diego Press Club and head of the Programming Committee, a plan to create educational content for local journalists is already underway. Stay tuned.
  1. Strengthen ties with downtown neighborhood associations. Community groups possess the core power of local issue-solving. We’ll strive to get to know the people who participate in community-building.
  1. With some funding in place, I intend to seek out companies that can boost the reach of this news outlet (SEO, AI, social media, etc.). Feel free to reach out to me: rondonoho@gmail.com.

There are more goals and aspirations brewing. This is a good start. Thanks for your continued readership and support. SDSun
