Downtown San Diego-centric news website thesandiegosun.com has partnered with veteran sales professional Steve Jahn to be the site’s first Director of Sales & Marketing.

Jahn has 30 years of business development experience, including six years in media advertising sales. He was a regional account executive for San Diego Magazine and also spent a decade as CEO of Charli Charger USA.

San Diego Sun Founder/Editor Ron Donoho and Jahn previously worked together at San Diego Magazine.

“Steve is an outgoing, gregarious and talented sales guy,” Donoho says. “He’s going to take The Sun in a new direction with advertising sales, partnerships and sponsorships for our website and our newsletter.”

Jahn will be the direct contact for all sales inquiries. He’s particularly excited about the prospect of creating underwritten sponsorship opportunities for clients focused on the downtown San Diego market.

“I’m fired up to work with Ron on this downtown product that he’s established,” Jahn says. “I’m a fan of all the writing Ron has done–at San Diego Magazine and literally every other media outlet in town. I know there’s interest in this and I know I can bring in advertisers who will benefit from being affiliated with The Sun.”

The San Diego Sun was launched by Donoho in 2021. It was initially part of the Independent Journalist Project funded by Facebook/Meta. Today it is a fully independent, boutique operation that focuses on the live/work/play aspects of downtown San Diego (92101).

In its first two years in operation, The Sun has garnered 10 awards from the San Diego chapters of The Society of Professional Journalists and The Press Club.

Site content includes coverage of downtown events, new restaurants, politics, the omnipresent issue of homelessness and an extensive series of profiles of downtown residents.

Underwritten sponsorship opportunities will be a valuable way for entities that care about, and are vested in, downtown San Diego to have a voice in stories that will be maintained under The San Diego Sun’s editorial control.
