Rain and fog have predominated the city in 2023. We’re counting on Mission Fed ArtWalk to ensure that clear, sunny skies return and stay over downtown San Diego.
Tens of thousands of people turn out annually in Little Italy for the free outdoor festival of all things art. The 39th version of the popular weekend event takes place April 29 (11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and April 30 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
Attendees can expect hundreds of vendors lining the streets, lots of food options and musical entertainment at select intersections.
Art aficianados will also hope for the postcard-perfect San Diego weather that’s been AWOL most the year. We’ve had triple the typical amount rainfall in the first quarter of 2023. Let’s not even go there on the cloudy possibility of May Gray or June Gloom.
ArtWalk returned to past spring-like glory in 2022. Recall that COVID caused it to become virtual in 2020 and the 2021 version was held in October.

And here’s information on two more April traditions: Chicano Park Day Celebration and SoCal Taco Fest. Both require that clouds get out and stay out of town:
Chicano Park Day Celebration
There hasn’t been an in-person Chicano Park Day in three years. The 53rd iteration takes place in Barrio Logan on April 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The murals in Chicano Park–painted on outdoor walls and the cement stanchions under the I-5 Freeway and Coronado Bridge–are world-famous. The site is listed in the United States’ Historical Landmarks Registry.
The free Chicano Park Day event celebrates the history and spirit captured in the colorful murals.
There’s also a car show, lots of food vendors and entertainment.
Let there be sun! For more information, go to: Chicano Park.
SoCal Taco Fest
Soggy tacos? No bueno. Send us the sol.
The SoCal Taco Fest share the opening date of the Mission Fed ArtWalk. Taco Fest is April 29 from noon to 10 p.m. at Waterfront Park.
The 21-and-over extravaganza features an all-day music lineup that will include Kool & The Gang.
Natch-o: Expect close to two dozen local restaurants serving a flavorful range of tacos.
Hold onto your sombrero, there’s also a Margarita Danc Cantina, live Luche Libre wrestling and, woof…Chihuahua races.
General admission tickets are $60. VIP tickets are sold out. For all the info, go to: Taco Fest. SDSun
